Step into my garden studio and work alongside me as I guide you on a journey to create Art with Soul.

My Decorating with Underglazes, Oxides, and Slips workshop is designed for those beginning their ceramic journey and those with some experience who are looking at expanding their existing repertoire of decorative finishes.

We will begin by exploring all the tools and materials you will want to have on hand to complete your pieces. Next, we will venture into the world of colourful underglazes, including mixing your own unique colour palette and applying colour to create movement and depth.

Try your hand at sgraffito, and then discover the wonderful world of oxides where you will learn to mix and apply oxides to your work to create beautiful patinas. We’ll end the workshop by playing with some new & fun embellishment techniques using slips, and discuss some ideas on how you can apply all you learn in this workshop to your own work with confidence and ease.

Come join me on this fun adventure into
discovering & applying a new world of colour, texture
and beauty to your studio work!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the workshop?
A: The Decorating with Underglazes, Oxides and Slips workshop is just under 2 hours long, spread across multiple videos in 7 different modules. You can stop and start at any time, and re-watch modules as often as you'd like.

Q: How long do I have access to the workshop for?

A: You can access the workshop at any time, and at any point in the future. Even if you've watched all the modules before, you can return and watch them whenever you'd like. Go at your own pace and feel free to stop/start as often as you'd like.

Q: What type of clay do I need?

A: You will need a good quality hand-building clay. Ask your ceramic supplier for their recommendations. Be sure to check the firing range and pass this on to whoever is firing your work.

Q: Will it be straightforward to access all the raw materials and tools required?
A: Everything you need should be easy to access from both your local ceramic supplier and from your own kitchen or studio.

Q: Do you provide recipes for mixing the slips and oxides?
A: The workshop includes a downloadable PDF of all the raw materials you will need, including the recipes for oxides washes and slips. Once you've tried the recipes, play around with different amounts to find out what works best for your pieces.

Q: What temperature do I need to fire my work at in order to achieve the best results?
A: The workshop is designed for earthenware (cone 02) or midfire clays (cones 5 or 6). The underglazes are more vibrant with the lower temperatures.

Jena will be available throughout the workshop if you have feedback or questions - just send her a message or email her directly at [email protected].
